This conical hill of clay and Blue Lias rises from the Somerset Levels and was formed when surrounding softer deposits were eroded, leaving a hard cap of sandstone exposed
The most recognizable feature is a 15th-century tower that remains from two superimposed churches of St Michael revealed through excavations at the top of the Tor.
